Right, first things first, introductions I do believe.

I’m Deafinitely Girly. I’m deaf and girly and living in London.

Although right now,  I’ve been away from London for 4 whole days at The Rents’s house, which is in the middle of nowhere. Although I love it here, I’m looking forward to being back in the hustle and  bustle.

More so, because tomorrow NikNak is coming over to talk cupcakes.  I’m baking her wedding cake you see and I’ve recently developed a top secret icing that I think might be just the thing to erm… top it all off.

It’s an enormous honour to be baking for her, especially seeing as I was actually banned from taking Home Economics GCSE in case I bought the school down in the league tables, so I am determined to succeed… and not poison any guests.

And this means practice…

So this weekend, while visiting The Rents, I had a practice and this is what I came up withHello cupcake!

…and, I can tell you,  it was actually quite tasty.

Although, after I have baked 150 of these little things for the big day and licked the beaters, I’m not sure I will be feeling the same way.

When I first started this baking lark, it was a disaster. My little flat has an oven only comparable to a Barbie Dream House cooker, but with extreme temperatures, and everything I cooked in there came out the consistency of a biscuit.

Victoria Sponge = biscuit

Pizza = biscuit

 Fresh croissant = biscuit

But gradually, I’ve got used to the searing temperatures and the fact that cupcakes cook in 5 minutes, and finally, they’re up to wedding standards.

The Rents were my official tasters at the weekend – kinda captive tasters if you will. But what I forgot is that I didn’t have my nice vibrating oven timer with me, which prevents me from burning the building down at home. The oven had a beepy thing, which I set and then promptly forgot about as a nice glass of wine that was placed in my hand.

Luckily, I may be deaf, but I certainly still have a sense of smell. And it was the wafting scent of burning that lured me from the bottom of the garden to the top, and into a smoke filled kitchen.

Inside the oven? Biscuits!

Gah!

So, after a gentle reminder from Ma to look at my watch rather than rely on beepy things I cannot hear, a successful batch was baked.

I’m getting rather nervous though – perhaps I should talk to NikNak about the possibility of having biscuits at her wedding… just in case!

I really like the pretty rose perched on top of the cupcake. How did you make it?
