My life has been completely taken over – by a book!!!!
I’m a very loyal reader – I have authors I like and when their new books are out, I will buy them immediately, full price usually, from the first place I see them, and then I will proceed to devour them in record time and regret that I didn’t take it slowly and savour it.
Freya North headlines my favourite author list. Her last book Secrets took me just 2 days to get through – I forgot to do basic things like brush my teeth because I was so engrossed, and my blog – Deafinitelygirly.com – suffered.

Another favourite is Jenny Colgan – her writing is laugh-out-loud funny but also incredibly realistic and poignant at times. Her last book – Diamonds Are A Girls Best Friend – was so good, I felt as though I had fallen through a Mary Poppin’s pavement and I was actually right there, experiencing it all first hand.
Being deaf, I miss whispers in real life, I miss gossip quite often too, and I certainly miss general chitchat – but when I read, I miss nothing. I ‘hear’ everything I’m meant to, I’m always included. I love it!

My current choice of book came out this summer. Called Twenties Girl, it’s written by Sophie Kinsella, another author on my favourites list. I knew straight away I’d fall in love with it. But I’d just won the Superdrug competition, had my daily blog to continue and a whole lotta deadlines at work.
So, to stop myself reading it, I hid it. I buried it under a pile of stuff in a box, and then I put that box in another box. I tried to forget about it and get on with writing. But I just couldn’t. So this week, I thought I’d get it out , just for quick peek.
And do you know what? It’s utterly brilliant. I can’t put it down. I even missed my stop on the bus this morning as I was so engrossed in a hilarious scene where…Â
Oh, I won’t spoil it for you!
Twenties Girl is refreshing, funny but completely at home with Kinsella’s writing style. I think it’s her best book yet.
But, I’ve got a blog to write, a competition to be devoted to, I can’t get addicted to this book. So this morning I decided, I’m limiting myself to a single bus journey of reading a day. No more. And, I’m distracting myself by telling you all about it right here.
It’s working, it’s working…
Oh it’s not working. My fingers are itching to get it out of my bag. I can’t help it. It’s too good. Just one more chapter…
Can’t hurt, can it?

I love Sophie Kinsella’s books. Have you seen the movie based on her Shopaholic girl? It was hilarious and sweet. I will definitely look into the other two authors. Thanks for the recommendation.
i have yet to see the movie – am waiting for it to be less expensive on DVD!
Freya North is ace – one of her books, Polly, is set in America.
