Last Wednesday, Superdrug sent me my challenge for this week – to find 30 people to pose in pink ponchos.
Now this is all well and good, except there was postal strike, and so my ponchos didn’t materialise until last thing on Monday!
*squeak!
Gone were my fabulous intentions of photographing people in the Wild West um… Country over the weekend! Now, I was more worried about finding 30 obliging people in the sometimes-less-than-friendly city of London to help me out.
So, I had a think…
My brain hurt, so I ate some chocolate, watched Neighbours and Home & Away – what am I? 10 years old? – and then had more of a think.
And then it came to me…
I’d do what I actually do quite well normally – annoy people!
So that’s what I did. From Monday night to Wednesday lunchtime, I did nothing but annoy people! Thirty people to be exact.
But in order to break it up a bit, make it more exciting, I created a game called…
“PIMP MY PONCHO”
Ten lucky people were chosen for this challenge and all they had to do was create a wonderful outfit from their smashing pink ponchos – and they did not disappoint. It’s hard to pick a winner because they all look so brilliant – number 1 was a tough one to beat, number 6 was a jelly baby by the way, and number 10 was deafinitely the most innovative pimping I’ve ever seen!!

1. Accessorized poncho / 2. Maternity poncho

3. Flashdance poncho / 4. Halter-hood poncho

5. Cropped-top poncho / 6. Jelly baby poncho

7. Little Pink Riding Hood poncho / 8. Parteeeeeeee poncho

9. Flintstone poncho / 10. Urban poncho
The second half was just me running wildly around the streets grabbing people. Rather bizarrely most of the people I grabbed, and who said yes, were men. But I did find some lovely lady bike couriers, some bemused girls on a day trip for the theatre, and a poor unsuspecting man having a cigarette. That’s what great about London – you never know who you’re going to meet!

11-15. Girls-on-tour poncho / 16. Windswept poncho

17-19. Blushing ponchos / 20-21. Blushing ponchos

22-23. Courier ponchos / 24. Awwwwww poncho

25-26. Over-knee ponchos / 27. Hello ladies’ poncho

28. Too-cool poncho / 29-30. Tired little ponchos
And the ponchos? Well, they were such a success – everyone wanted to keep them – even the men! In fact, one of the men was so keen, that he snuck into another picture when I wasn’t looking!
*Gah!
See if you can spot him!
So I’ve spread the Superdrug Feels Like Summer word – somewhere in London, 30 people are running wild, in pink Superdrug-emblazoned ponchos, talking about a crazy blonde girl who harassed them into helping her with a very exciting competition.

This is amazing! Looks like everyone had fun.
I love the Flashdance poncho look!
haha! it was great actually… with a bit more time, who knows what we could have come up with! DG
Good effort! I’m impressed that you did not get arrested for harrasing the poor people!
What a classic. You have some creative friends and good negotiation skills too!
Looks like it was fun and you acheived the challenge. I don’t think I would have done that well.
What a blast. i like the tired little ponchoes and the jelly bean! Keep writing we’ll miss your blog!
